Our Lady of Guadalupe
(Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe),
also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe,
is a Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin
Mary associated with a Marian apparition
and a venerated image enshrined within
the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe
in Mexico City.
The basilica is the most visited Catholic
pilgrimage site in the world, and the world's
third most-visited sacred site. This fact only
shows that some immense power was
manifested in this apparition. It has been
a pattern in some countries, were people
we dispersed with many deities or even
the pursue of magical powers, that great
beings or Masters come down to Earth
just for the purpose of a redirection of that
region towards a more developed form of
devotion - like Christianity.
Pope Leo XIII granted the venerated image
a Canonical Coronation on 12 October 1895.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe
(Spanish: Basílica de Nuestra Señora
de Guadalupe) is a Roman Catholic
church, basilica, and National shrine
of Mexico in the north of Mexico City
which houses the cloak containing the
image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The
1709 shrine was built near the hill of
Tepeyac, where the Virgin Mary is
believed to have appeared to Saint
Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin. The
basilica structure which now contains
Diego's cloak
was completed in 1974. One of the
most important pilgrimage sites of
Catholicism, the basilica and tilma
(cloak) are visited by several million
people every year, especially around
12 December, Our Lady of Guadalupe's
Feast day.
There are many amazing accounts of
the deph of this image. Some scientist
have discovered that the star pattern
on the image blue sky is exactly the
actual positions of the stars in the sky
in that location in December 9, 1531 -
the date of the apparition!
